Read all about it - Wordfest returns

Crawley library is celebrating the 2012 Wordfest later this month by showcasing some of the UK’s most popular writers and actors.

The annual literary festival, which starts on Saturday March 24 and runs until Thursday April 5, will bring with it a host of events all about words and writing. These include:

· BBC and ITV newsreader Nicholas Owen on Monday March 26: The presenter will be talking about the changing face of journalism, 24-hour coverage and twitter from 7pm. He will be joined by Sussex Newspapers editor, Gary Shipton, former celebrity agent, Stanley Jackson, and social media guru Jo Webber. Tickets costs £3.

· Psychotherapist Susie Orbach on Thursday March 29: The London-based novelist has written more than ten books on body image and will be speaking about cosmetic surgery, dieting, food and fashion in the media from 7:30pm. Entry is £3.

· Help with domestic abuse during Saturday 31 March: Victims and workers from domestic abuse charity RISE will offer themselves as living books to be borrowed and read between 10am to 2pm. The event is free and does not need to booked.

· The secrets of creating audio books on Monday April 2: Actor Saul Reichlin, who narrated Stieg Larsson’s best seller: ‘The Girl who Played with Fire’ and also starred in the Inspector Morse and Miss Marple television series, will be speaking at the free session. It starts at 3pm.

West Sussex County Council Deputy Leader, Lionel Barnard, who oversees the Library Service, said: “Wordfest will help mark this importance of reading and writing by bringing some of the UK’s finest talent to Crawley.

“There will be something for everyone of all ages to meet new people and get sound advice from the professionals.

“Places for most of the events are limited and may need to be booked in advanced.”
