Part of the A272 was closed for the occasion, which attracts representatives from other bonfire societies in a colourful procession featuring 4,000 torches.

Hundreds of volunteers help the event go with a sparkle from torch making to bonfire building and making costumes for the parade.

Newick’s Bonfire Society raises thousands of pounds each year for good causes and is famous for creating the world’s biggest Catherine Wheel in 1999, standing 86ft in diameter.
