A meet the author invite to all

DAVID Mitchell will be discussing his new book The Thousand Autumns Of Jacob De Zoet at the Ropetackle Arts Centre, Shoreham, on Wednesday, March 16 at 7pm.

Mitchell is the author of the novels Black Swan Green, which was selected as one of the 10 Best Books of the Year by Time; Cloud Atlas, which was a Man Booker Prize finalist; Number9Dream, which was short-listed for the Man Booker as well as the James Tait Black Memorial Prize; and Ghostwritten, awarded the Mail on Sunday/John Llewellyn Rhys Prize for best book by a writer under 35 and short-listed for the Guardian First Book Award.

Ropetackle Arts Centre spokesman Ben Parker said: “Our Meet The Author series has really taken off, with fantastic writers such as Will Self, Dom Jolly, Steven Berkoff and Amanda Foreman appearing at Ropetackle over the past six months.”

Set in atmospheric coastal Japan, Mitchell’s latest book centres on an earnest young clerk, Jacob de Zoet, who arrives in the summer of 1799 to make his fortune and return to Holland to wed his fiancée. But Jacob’s plans are shaken when he meets the daughter of a Samurai.
