Hughie back at folk club

Club spokesman Chris Davis said: “Hughie was originally a member of The Spinners, Britain’s premiere folk group for over 30 years.

“From the very beginning they soon began generating sell-outs at some of the UK’s top concert halls and provided unprecedented amounts of exposure for folk music via their many appearances on radio and television, including hosting several TV and radio shows for the BBC.

“However, it was as a live act that the band established their reputation, always providing an entertaining, easily accessible sound set to the backdrop of the band’s professionalism. In Sussex alone, the Spinners regularly played sell-out gigs at the Dome in Brighton and the Pavilion Theatre in Worthing, to name just two.

“The group disbanded in 1988. However, public demand saw them reunite to tour for a further five years. During that time, Hughie Jones began carving out a highly-successful solo career playing festivals and folk clubs to great acclaim. With his powerful voice, excellent guitar playing, humorous and engaging audience communication, and insightful and entertaining material spanning old favourites, chorus songs, maritime music, blues and more, Hughie leaves enraptured audiences wherever he goes!”

Entrance for Hughie’s gig on Wednesday, August 31 is £4. The Willows Folk Club first opened its doors to the public more than 35 years ago, and now meets every Wednesday at 8pm in the function room of Arundel Football Club, Mill Road, Arundel, situated to the rear of the large public car park opposite Arundel Castle.
