CONCERT

Slinfold Concert Band continues its charity tradition, but with a change of venue this year.

Spokesman Chris Youngman explains: “Slinfold Concert Band is proud of its on-going relationship with the League of Friends of Horsham Hospital.

“For the past few years, the band has ended its winter break with a fund-raising concert at the Capitol theatre, to be followed in summer with an appearance at the Friends’ summer fete in the hospital grounds.

“2013 sees a continuation of this tradition, but with a change of venue to the Duckering Hall at the College of Richard Collyer in Horsham.”

Chris said Band loved playing at the Capitol and had attracted good audiences, but the cost of hiring the venue was having an adverse effect on the monies it was able to donate to the Friends.

“The Band is hoping that a move to a smaller venue will mean more cash in the kitty for this worthy cause.”

Slinfold Concert Band was founded in 1978 by a few musical enthusiasts in Slinfold village, who wanted to re-create the idea of a small village band.

“Thirty five years later the Band has grown in both reputation and size, and is now one of the busiest and most popular bands in the area.

“The Band is enjoying its first full season playing under the leadership of new musical director Christopher Newport, and the introduction of new music and some new musicians promises to result in an exciting and rewarding evening for all present, with the Band playing the wide ranging selection of music for which it is celebrated.

“The League of Friends of Horsham Hospital was founded in 1959.

“Since then it has raised and spent more than £2 million on equipment and extra services that benefit patients, staff and visitors alike.
