Classical guitar performance offers something for everyone

Mark Jennings of Christ’s Hospital will give the performance, which will include modern as well as classical music – in fact, something for everyone.

The event also has a cash bar and small eats included in the £8 ticket price – children under 12 with an adult have free entry.

Doors open at 7pm for the programme start at 7.30pm.

The classical guitar is rarely heard these days and this recital will be a great treat and opportunity.

Mark has been playing the classical guitar from and early age. He attended the London College of Music and while still a student performed in many public master-classes.

Since college Mark has been a member of the Baroque Players, which he co-founded, and has played with them, other groups and on his own at many events across the UK

Mark follows in the footsteps of Miguel Llobet, Andrés Segovia and Julian Bream, the three performer personalities of the 20th century who established the classical guitar as a serious instrument.

The modern classical guitar has its origins in the 19th century from the Spanish luthier and player Antonio de Torres who gave the modern classical guitar its definitive form, with a broadened body, increased waist curve, thinned belly, improved internal bracing.

The modern classical guitar replaced older form for the accompaniment of song and dance called flamenco, for which a modified version, known as the flamenco guitar, was subsequently created.
