They helped the king out of sticky financial moments; they amassed huge amounts of land, particularly in Sussex; and they were at the heart of high matters of state.
They were the Fitzalans, earls of Arundel, and later of Surrey- subject of a new study, based on unprecedented access, newly researched and written by Oxford-based historian Michael Burtscher.

Michael's The Fitzalans, Earls of Arundel and Surrey, Lords of the Welsh Marches (1267- 1415) has been published by LOgaston Press and is available to buy at Arundel Castle.
