CHICHESTER'S most important bishop? For many there's just the one candidate- the late great George Kennedy Allen Bell.
Bell, who died 50 years ago this October, was in the eye of the sgtorm when he boldly spoke out against the indiscriminate bombing of Germany during the Second World War.

He was widely lauded for his inspirational devotion and humanit, but his stance on area bombing saw him reviled in certain quarters.
