HALF a century ago the West Sussex Gazette got it wrong – fortunately, it has to be said.
In its edition of December 19, 1957, the WSG carried a line drawing of the "house with no future" – a picturesque cottage, complete with "oak beams, ships' timbers and huge central fireplace", at the junction of the Horsham Road and the Crawley bypass.
Soon it would be "surrounded by Corporation houses", the Gazette groaned – an early victim of the concrete tidal wave that has done so much damage to West Sussex in the 50 years since.
And yet, in reality, this quaint cottage hasn't fared too badly at all, as its owner was quick to point out.
