MAJOR traffic chaos is set to hit towns and villages with the closure of the A27 Arundel railway bridge.
The bridge is scheduled to close for maintenance over several weekends, sparking fears it will impact on trade and cut Arundel off to the south and Littlehampton off to the north'.

The closure will be from 8pm on Friday to 6am on Monday on September 12 to 15, September 26 to 29, October 10 to 13 and possibly the weekends of October 17 to 20 and 31 to November 3, while the Highways Agency carry out the work.

Littlehampton town councillor James Walsh blasted the decision to close the road saying: "It's unbelievable that they are contemplating closing the A27 south coast trunk road. What it means is the entire A27 south coast road will be diverted down a B road to Littlehampton and along the A259, which is already congested."
