YOUNG mum Kelly Goddard, whose baby boy died from cot death has vowed she will not give up her fight for answers.
Eight-week old Alfie Yeomans died from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome – commonly known as cot death – in August.

Now Kelly, 24, of Rowlands Road, has said she is determined to raise awareness about cot death and what might be done to prevent it.

"It is such a tragic thing to lose a child that I just feel something good needs to come out of such a situation," she said.

Toxin fear

One of her biggest concerns is whether a simple thing like a mattress cover could protect babies from antimony, a substance believed to be found in mattresses.

Yet, so far, no one has been willing to carry out tests on little Alfie to see whether the toxins are present in his body.

"I still have not found anyone to do the testing," Kelly said.

"I really do not know why I can't get it done. I have asked probably about a dozen people. I am quite frustrated."

Research

She added: "If you just listen to doctors they say cot death is just one of those terrible things that a child stops breathing.

"But because I have done so much research into cot death I know now when they talk about toxins generated from mattresses.

"It does make you think. People are going to come up with their own reason why their child stopped breathing.

"I honestly believe this is a cause."

Petition

Kelly is launching a petition aimed at the government researching into the possibility that toxins from mattresses are to blame.

Along with friends, she will be in the town centre by the bandstand from noon on Saturday, November 7, urging people to sign the petition.

She is also in the process of starting up a charity to help fund further research into the usefulness of mattress covers and to help produce information leaflets for parents on what cot death is and how it might be prevented.

A number of fund-raising activities are being organised including a sponsored walk and a fun day.
