Some 281 Crawley dance students will be taking to the stage at The Hawth, Crawley, on Saturday and Sunday, July 9-10, for a show with a powerful message.

Louise Ryrie is promising to show “the beauty of creation, the destruction of that beauty by mankind – and what we can do to try and change things around and take better care of our planet.”

Louise explained: “Every two years I produce a large scale show at the Hawth Theatre.

“In 2014 I wrote Love Letters, a commemoration of 100 years since World War One.

“I like the shows I write to have some depth and a chance for us to learn.

“Genesis, our 2016 production, will be held at the Hawth Theatre on Saturday, July 9, 11am and 5.30pm, and Sunday, July 10, at 11am and 4pm.”

For tickets call the box office on 01293 553636 or visit www.parkwoodtheatres.co.uk. Alternatively, email hawthboxoffice@parkwoodtheatres.co.uk.

“Through dance – ballet, contemporary, jazz, belly dance and tap – 281 Crawley students aged between two and 60 will show the beauty of creation. The earth begins to produce all kinds of trees, plants and fruit. Birds soar and sea creatures swim in the ocean. Every species of animal roams free...

“And the destruction of that beauty by mankind: pollution, water and energy wastage, endangered wildlife, poverty and disease...

“Preparing Genesis has been a thought-provoking time. We’ve had a lot of fun with the themes, dances and drama scenes, but the serious undertones are very real.

“We want to convey that it really is the little things we can all contribute, and small changes we can all make, that will make the difference in our world.

“It’s our aim that while our audiences will hopefully have a great time watching, they may take away some inspiration at the end as to how we can each leave this world a little better than when we arrived...”

Louise added: “I have run the Louise Ryrie School of Dance & Drama for 19 years now – since I was 19! Our school is very family-minded and welcoming to all ages, training toddlers through to senior citizens. Past pupils have gone on to have careers in dance and performance, education and dance teaching.

“We continue to appreciate the wonderful opportunity of having our home at St Elizabeth’s Church in Northgate where we have a fully-equipped dance studio and also run a performing arts church.”
