ORGANISERS of the annual Steyning railway evening are appealing for people who were at the centenary celebration at Steyning station to come forward.
This year's railway avening is focusing on the 1961 celebration of the station's 100th anniversary and organisers hope a wider picture of the event will emerge if a group of people who were there get together.
Councillor George Cockman said: "This is always fascinating for people who did not know the line in its years of operation – and great fun for the people who meet old friends and can share memories."
Another contribution to the evening will be from Terry Cole, who will present a selection of colour slides taken on the line in the early 1960s, featuring views of long-vanished stations and steam trains.
Southern Colour In The SixtiesTerry's childhood home was near the railway line in Worthing, and the passing steam trains led to his lifelong interest and active involvement in railways, particularly the Bluebell Railway, where he has been a volunteer driver for 40 years.
Terry's recent book, Southern Colour In The Sixties, devotes a whole chapter to the Steyning line and will be on sale at the railway evening.
Steyning railway evening is on Friday, November 14, at 7.30pm, at The Drama Hall, Steyning Grammar School, Shooting Field.
