AN Italian-themed event to raise money for SAFeR Steyning, the area's first-responder service, has raised more than £1,100.
The sell-out Italian evening and "Wine Mastermind" challenge was held at the Steyning Centre.
It was officially opened by Dr Eric Noren, senior partner at Steyning Health Centre, who outlined his support for the scheme.
SAFeR's patron, Sally Gunnell, sent a message as she was unable to be at the event.
She said: "This is an extremely worthwhile cause which is very dear to my heart and those of my neighbours, family and friends."
Sally Gunnell Sally said the project could be of benefit to anyone in the area.
"SAFeR Steyning is one of those projects which doesn't exclude anyone," she said.
"We never know when it could be one of us who needs it.
"In fact, I know several people who have benefited from the quick response and professional and caring service given by SAFeR responders.
"I know I certainly feel safer with SAFeR around."
Rotary Club The Italian supper was cooked by the wives of Steyning and Henfield Rotary Club members and the rush for second helpings was difficult to control.
The Wine Mastermind showed just how knowledgeable the residents of Steyning are about Italian grape varieties.
Bob Patching, from the Bald-Headed Club, presented SAFeR Steyning with a cheque for £1,000 at the annual meeting, held before the supper.
There was also a raffle to raise money towards the cost of new equipment for SAFeR responders and maintenance of existing kit.
SAFeR "It was a great evening," said Martin Leigh-Pollitt, chairman of trustees for SAFeR.
"And we're just so grateful to the Bald-Headed Club, Steyning and Henfield Rotary Club and local organisations and residents who provide support and donate money to us.
"Since we started, we've raised the fantastic total of £23,000, which enables us to keep going.
It really is heart-warming to see how much time and effort our responders and volunteers give, and how much it's appreciated by the people of Steyning and surrounding areas."
Anyone who would like to get involved, either by becoming a responder or by making a donation, can call Mr Leigh-Pollitt on 01903 812007.
