A FUND set up to reward students achieving above and beyond expectations has been given a major boost.
Steyning Millennium Trust was set up to encourage and recognise the achievements of youngsters.
High-performing or naturally gifted students normally bring about their own rewards.
Other students, including those with special needs, do achieve progress beyond expectation, but it is not always acknowledged, and it is these special achievements which the trust rewards.
Bald Headed Club The trust has been given a boost by philanthropic members of Steyning's Bald Headed Club, which has donated £1,250.
Five of the "baldies" visited Steyning Grammar School to mark the donation, posing for photographs with head girl Marine Masters and trustee Charles Ashby – but not before having the figure donated painted on their heads.
The trustees' initial goal is to raise £50,000 to create an endowment fund aimed at generating an income of around £2,500 each year to provide achievement awards, with the fund currently standing at almost £30,000.
Trustees are keen to garner more support, particularly from local businesses.
Anyone who would like to get involved, or find out more, should call John Stevenson on 01903 813933.
