Rita defies Mannings Heath’s frosty reception

Having splashed round a rain-sodden Kingfisher track seven days previously, Mannings Heath’s ladies faced an entirely different challenge on Thursday as they battled a frost-bound Waterfall course with rock hard greens and fairways.

Fortunately their competition was another light-hearted affair, this time over fourteen holes, with competitors receiving double points on odd or even holes according to their pre-selected choice.

The format is clearly one that suits Rita Searles who, having won the Silver Division in the same event a year ago, repeated the feat with an excellent 39 points to pip Gilly Ewers by one and Mina Burton by two. Scoring proved much tougher for the Bronze ranks though with Margaret Edwards leading on 27.

Results: Silver Division: 1st Rita Searles – 39 points; 2nd Gilly Ewers – 38 points; 3rd Mina. Bronze Division: 1st Margaret Edwards – 27 points; 2nd Gill Redston – 25 points; 3rd Judith Brown – 22 points.
