ANGMERING judo star Peter Vincent was part of the JFA UK national judo squad who travelled to Thessaloniki in Greece for an international cup and training camp recently.

After a two-day training camp, Arun South Coast Judo Club’s Vincent competed in the Ithaki Matsuura International Cup.

He produced five ippon wins, as he beat three Greek judokas and two Bulgarian opponents to win gold in his weight class.

The JFA Uk squad took two gold and two silver medals in the competition.

Vincent said: “I was very pleased to be part of the training camp and competition, which supported the International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

“Ithaki Judo Club in Thessaloniki work hard with a local anti-drug rehabilitation programme that uses judo and martial arts to help those who have struggled with substance abuse issues in the past.

“It is great to see the sport of judo helping to have an impact in this way.”
