As nearly 15,000 runners tackled the recent Great South Run in Portsmouth, among them were 35 runners from Bognor’s Tone Zone Runners.

In ideal conditions, including a welcome tail-wind for the last two miles of the ten-mile race, the club had four runners making their debut at this distance.

Club veteran runner Peter Chittenden ... travelled to Italy to take part in the Jessol 12k trail run, while he has also run the Denmead 10k, Forest Run 10k and Heron Way 10k.

These were Christopher Dummer, who finished first for the club in 1hr 11min 19sec, Alan Coombs, Nicola Kettley and Jean Morris, who completed the run in 2.45 – quicker than an eight-mile race she ran a week before.

Michelle Miles, Paul Wells, Karen Vilday and Juliet Stallard all achieved personal bests, with Stallard the first lady home for the club.

At the popular Snowdonian Marathon, there were 3,000 racers. This was Paul Coe’s first marathon after a two-month break so he was slightly nervous pre-race but he didn’t have to worry as he completed the mountainous course in an excellent 4.18. Joan Woolley completed the run in 6.10.

These events came after the Chichester Half Marathon involved 30 Tone Zone runners - plus another six who did the ten-mile option.

Derek and Grace Natoli ran the Manchester Half Marathon, Derek having a great run and achieving a PB of 1.55.39

Pheonix Running put on another themed multi-lap run at Walton-on-Thames. This one was to celebrate Arnie Schwarzenegger with the “I’ll be back” race.

Jess Thomson and Peter Ramsdale completed five laps for a distance of 16.4 miles in just over two-and-and-half hours.
