On her return from Leamington as National champion, local bowler Amy Truran played in the Eastbourne Ladies Open and won through to Saturday’s singles final, where she defeated Joan Jones of Gildredge Park 21-8 to collect the winner’s cheque for £400 and the Langham Pioneer silver trophy.

On Sunday it was an early start for Sussex Women’s finals day at Popes Mead, where in the triples final with her Homefield Park team-mates Helen Jones and Peggy Hayward, they had a convincing 26-11 win over a Bexhill trio who conceded after 16 ends.

Next up was the singles in which Truran won 21-11 against Gill Hill of the Saffrons club. She has now been County champion six times which is more than anyone else in the 82-year history of the competition.
