A SPECIAL offer gives West Sussex Gazette readers have the chance to attend one of the biggest Shire and Working Horse Shows in the South East this coming weekend at two for the price of one.

Buy your copy of the West Sussex Gazette published on Wednesday May 16, and cut out the coupon on the equestrian page, Page 10, to take up the offer.

This famous show takes place this Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20, at Blue Anchor showground at Blindley Heath, north of East Grinstead, (RH7 6JJ) and also includes a Dog Show and a wide range of activities to keep the family busy. This year features the magnificent horse-drawn St Giles Fire Engine, built in 1908 for the Earl of Shaftesbury, which has been admired by the Queen and viewers of BBC’s Blue Peter.

Saturday May 19 sees the magnificent Working Heavy Horses demonstrating their skills. See the sheer muscle power of these gentle giants as they plough and harrow the land, using traditional techniques. Their agility will also be put to the test in exciting timed trials, where horses pulling harrows weave through hazards and obstacles to compete to be the fastest.

Sunday is Showing Day when the horses dress up in their finery and you will be amazed at the number of magnificent Heavy Horses in the arena for the Finale Grand Parade .

The Mare and Foal class is always popular with visitors, giving them a chance to see the progression from foals to fully grown horses.

Bring your dog to take part each day in the fun agility course and on Sunday there is a Companion Dog Show with pedigree class. There are also Gundog displays on both days with on the spot tutorials, agility demonstrations and ‘have a go’ sessions. There will also be Vintage Farm Machinery, Military vehicles and Classic car displays and parades.

Around the showground the wide spread of activities means that everyone is happy. There are demonstrations on Beekeeping, Blacksmithing and Trug and Walking Stick making, fairground and dray rides, shops and foodstalls. There is truly something for everyone.

Tickets are £7 for adults with under 16s and parking free. By cutting out the coupon on this page, readers will benefit from two for the price of one, meaning a family of two adults and two children under 16 can get in for just £7.
