Crawley AC fielded a strong team at the rearranged Sussex Cross Country Championships and won three medals.
Viesturs Dude, Neil Smith and Tony Lintern and all returned jubilant having won gold, silver and bronze in different categories.
Crawley men’s team’s strong line-up was reflected by the medal haul from the 9.8km (M40
/M50) and 7.85km (M60) race - the younger athletes running five laps of the nearly 2km loop while the older ones did five.
Neil Smith put in a fine performance to take the silver medal in the M40 category. Just missing a medal, Adrian Haines, finished fourth. However the team of Neil, Adrian, Tim Kimber (9th) and triathlete Simon Powell (12th) won the team gold.
Crawley’s other runners were: Graham Cooper (14th), Shayne Fensom (15th), John Moores (20th), Vince Golding (32nd), Gavin ‘Spencer’ Newton (43rd) and Terrence Barnes (47th).
The M50 category saw Viesturs Dude win the gold medal. Viesturs along with Gary Thayre (5th) and Dave Cook (12th) also won the team gold medal. Nick Lee was 14th.
Not to be left out, in the M60 category Tony Lintern finished third to win the bronze medal. Dave Beattie was 7th.
The Ladies W35 Team; (Sue Aldridge 8th, Anne Steer 17th, Jo Geraghty 19th); finished in fourth place. In the W45 event Crawley runners were Anne Buckett (15th) and Wendy Hadley (18th).
