AFTER a disappointing start to the RDA season with the South East Regional Challenge Day having to be cancelled due to the weather, it turned out to be a glorious day for the Regional Dressage recently in every sense of the word.
A wonderful turnout of riders representing ten RDA groups from across Kent, Surrey and Sussex, descended on Hickstead on a lovely sunny day.
Riders of all abilities, be they lead rein with side walkers, or those competing for qualifying places for the RDA National Championships in July at Hartpury, they all showed the many spectators just how they can achieve great results for all the hard work that they put in. This competition could not happen without the dedicated volunteers who support and coach these riders and prepare the horses and ponies to a very high standard.
This year’s Highest Non-Qualifier was Jonathan Sullivan from the Epsom Group with Martin Mathews, who is affiliated to the Cranleigh Group, winning Highest Qualifier. Highest score for a rider being led, was awarded to Layla Clifton of Chichester, and Highest Senior Newcomer was Kim Rollason of Arundel.
Ten riders qualified for that National Championships, with three of those qualifying in two events. Many congratulations go to them.
David Cowan, of sponsors Cowan Architects from East Grinstead who have been generously supporting this and other RDA South East Region events for several years, came along to present rosettes and trophies to the very deserving competitors.
