SCGU Awards

At the SCGU Dinner on Friday, two Sussex women golfers were recognised for their significant work as volunteers. Sponsored by Your Golf Travel, Christine Kernohan of Haywards Heath GC was awarded Sussex Volunteer of the Year for her amazing work with juniors.

She gives up most Sundays to take the junior girls out on the course for 9 holes and attends all the junior meetings. Christine also raises funds for extra coaching sessions and prizes for the juniors. As Haywards Heath Division 2 Captain, she led the team to victory winning their Division of the Inter-Club Championship this year.

There was also a Special Recognition award which was presented to Nikki Purton of Mannings Heath. Her contribution to golf in Sussex has been outstanding, since outgrowing the junior section Nikki has been involved in organising junior events for ten years. She represented Sussex at Junior County Match Week five times and used this knowledge and experience to organise the event which SCGU hosted at Goodwood this year.

Congratulations to Christine and Nikki on their awards, which were presented by Oliver Gunning, Associate Director Your Golf Travel. In her speech, Sue Todd, the County Captain thanked all the volunteers in Sussex clubs for the work they do in helping to grow the sport and give golfers a great experience.
