Three friends from Mel’s Milers jogging club completed the London Marathon in perfect weather conditions which brought record crowds to turn out in support.

Billingshurst residents Robin Fairhurst and Rick Duffy joined fellow runner and Horsham resident Colin Shaw in their group attempt to finish the marathon.

The trio ran the entire marathon together, with Rick and Robin finishing in 4hrs 56 mins and Colin in 5hrs. Although the ‘Three Amigos’ had all run previous marathons, this was a particularly special race, as Colin, who turned 70 last summer, wanted to add one more marathon to his previous 14.

Robin said of his friend: “Rick had completed the Brighton Marathon the week earlier, so we must all admire his focus and determination.”

Horsham Joggers also enjoyed a strong entry in the London Marathon.

Neil Boniface led the club home with a brilliant 2h 32m35s to take 41st place in the world class men’s field. Mark Greet followed him with a fine 2h50m03s.

Janine Littler led home the club’s ladies with 3h50m09s. Meanwhile Dean Angell ran 64m36s and Paul Yokum 91m17s in the Bluebell 10 miler at Angmering. Alasdair Coyle clocked 52m-08s in the 10k event at the same venue.
