LIFESAVING: Crawley Town crowned top club at Welsh Championships

A total of 17 members of the Crawley Town Life Saving Club's squad competed in the Welsh Pool Championships held in the 50m Olympic pool at Swansea.

The eight-member strong senior squad won top overall club with the nine youths finishing fourth overall.

Crawley won 12 individual, seven team titles, and established five new Welsh records.

Crawley Town can also boast the fastest Men’s and Ladies swimmers in the pool when Dan Seagrove Castle and Zara Williams took their respective 50m sprint titles in times of 24.81 and 26.78 seconds respectively.

Both Dan and Zara won their respective individual 50m manikin carry and 100m medley rescue events.

Crawley Town’s senior fin swimmers Devon Amos and David Butler won golds in their respective 100m manikin carry and 100m manikin tow events.

Richard Jagger won the gruelling 200m super lifesaver event.

European National team champion David Butler took gold in the lone throw with his partner Sam Lawman just ahead of Richard and Dan.

The senior relay teams comprising for the ladies Zara, Devon, Vicky Threfall and Luisa Petra and men David, Dan, Richard and Sam won both their respective 4x25m manikin relay and 4x50m medley relays, cementing their claim to the top overall senior team.

Martin Schofield won four individual golds at under-19s level in the 100m rescue medley, 100m manikin tow with fins, 100m manikin carry with fins and 200m super life saver.

Martin then teamed up with his partner Joe Woollard to take gold in the line throw just ahead of second placed Sam Murray with his partner Iker Lopez.

In the Girls section Crawley Town’s highest overall point scorer was Georgia Blenkley in the U14 age group, but not far behind her was Brooke Michel.

In the 12.5m line event Ellyn Reeve took bronze in the U16 age group with partner Frankie Philips. Jade Hand, swimming for the first time in the U19 age group, had a best finish of sixth in the “lung busting” 100n Rescue Medley.

Crawley Town U16 girls team featuring Ellyn, Frankie, Brooke and Georgia finished second and third in the 4x25m manikin and 4x50m medley relays respectively, while the boys U19 team comprising Martin, Joe, Sam and Iker took bronze and gold with a fingernail finish in the 4x25m manikin and 4x50m medley relays respectively.
