KUILSRIVER. trained at Findon by Nick Gifford, achieved a well-deserved success over hurdles, when taking the Betfair Racing Excellence Conditional Jockeys’ Training series Final Handicap Hurdle at Plumpton last week.

He had seemed certain to achieve his first victory at the track previously but lost his action temporarily after a mistake at the last, resulting in him narrowly being beaten into second place. In an earlier run at Fontwell, he had been impeded in his run to the line, and finished second there too.

The Irish-bred gelding had seven placings to his credit prior to this first victory when he was ridden by conditional jockey Thomas Garner. He handled the testing ground well and, still only five, his real future will eventually be in chasing.

Kuilsriver should be a good prospect for next season.
