Horsham rugby club coach Nick Stocker felt the first team underperformed in losing away at Ashford on Saturday.
The Green and Whites were beaten 19-7 by their promotion-chasing opponents in Kent, and result which makes Horsham’s hopes for a top three finish unlikely.
“The game was deeply frustrating,” Stocker said. “We played nowhere near the standards we expect.
“We didn’t throw enough energy into hitting the breakdown and too many players stood off.
“Despite some great breaks from the likes of Jamie Gibbs we let ourselves down with poor passing and did not play with the accuracy required.”
In an improved second half Horsham pressure was rewarded with a try when Johnny Whiting powered over.
Horsham will be hoping for a return to form this Saturday when they go to struggling Park House.
