GORING and District Riding Club’s recent annual meeting and prize giving took on a special significance this year. The event at Clapham village hall also marked the 50th year since the founding of the club in 1962.
The club decided to use this opportunity to recognise the contribution made to it by Robin Storkey, one of the founder members, who has served the club for the full 50 years. He was clearly surprised and delighted when he was presented with a beautiful trophy to mark the achievement.
The club has had a very successful year both with its own events and also teams. It has had 40 people representing the club at area level with some great performances both individually and as part of teams.
Awards were also presented to those adults and juniors who were deemed to have excelled either by way of their improvement or their achievements.
James Lee was re-elected as chairman and Janet Shears as Secretary, everyone agreed what a great job they do.
Special mention was given to David Beer, Denise Emry-Jones and Andre Hannam for organising the Winter and Summer Dressage Series which is continuing to go from strength to strength.
The club also thanked Mr and Mrs Clem Somerset for the use of Castle Goring and Titnore Lane where the club’s shows are held, and to Chris Ellis for the use of Hangleton Equestrian Centre for the dressage series.
