THE South Downs Harness Club, which was formed in 1978 to encourage driving of horses and ponies as a sport and recreation, has a busy calendar of events for 2012 in West Sussex and Hampshire.
Since its formation it has become renowned for its friendly atmosphere and consistently aims to improve and maintain the standard of driving and horsemanship in the area.
Its events include both competitive and non-competitive activities.
In 2011, the club held 25 events including two one-day-events, two shows, a trec, an inside-out, lots of social drives, a summer camp, training and social event. It caters for all driving interests: social drives, showing and horse driving trials. In addition it runs training sessions and social and educational events. The club’s annual meeting takes place in Petersfield this Saturday and a good programme of events for the coming year follows, starting with a talk on March 10 at Petersfield Community Centre in Love Lane when equine dentist Phil Armitage and equine physio Karen Lees will be speakers, along with a nujtritionalist.
The event starts at 6.45pm and non members are welcome.
The season kicks of on March 25 with a Members’ Social Drive, followed by a Members Training and Assessment Day on March 25 near Midhurst.
