On Saturday Burgess Hill Runners hosted their annual league race, the Downlands Dash which also forms part of the Downlands Community School Summer Fayre in Hassocks.

The scenic 5.5 mile race starts in the Downlands playing fields and then goes off through a mixed terrain of fields and wooded areas.

After the bad weather that struck the local area early on, the clouds parted just in time for the race and glorious sunshine greeted the 286 adults and 48 juniors who hadn’t been deterred by the earlier rain.

The adult race was won by a local man, Matt Bristow, who had once trained with Burgess Hill Runners. He clocked a fantastic time of 33:27 and was followed shortly behind by Paul Cousins of Haywards Heath Harriers in 34:05 and Rob Watts, also of Haywards Heath Harriers, in 34:32.
