A disability sports club are celebrating after celebrating the inaugural Boccia England National Boccia Day at Middleton Sports Club.

Coinciding with the Paralympic Games in Rio, National Boccia Day championed the disability sport which aims to provide an inclusive platform for people of all ages with wide-ranging disabilities to participate in sport.

A keen group attended the day to either try it for the first time or find out more about the club.

“Every Monday evening we hold a boccia club session at MSC,” said Tim Hayes, club co-ordinator.

“We have coaches and players available to make it fun for anyone. We are trying to make it very social and so aiming it at young adults who can not only give the game a go or practice if they want, but also have some fun in the bar afterwards.”

One of the reasons people love playing is because it is so inclusive and puts everyone on a level playing field, regardless of their physical or intellectual ability.

We have had inclusive cricket and tennis days throughout the summer and hope the introduction of boccia to the sports club will encourage more and more people to join in.
