A bumper 3,500 crowd poured through the gates of Fontwell Park for the track’s annual celebration of all things Irish.

The St Patrick’s Raceday was declared another big success as punters were treated to some fine jump-racing and a wide range of sideshows.

Racecourse marketing manager Max Roberts said: “Our thanks go to the great crowd who attended the St Patrick’s Raceday.

“It was a fantastic afternoon with winners for seven different jockeys and seven different trainers. Congratulations go to all of them.”

Biggest-priced winner of the day was the Harry Fry-trained Karinga Dancer, who took the Smart Computers UK Ltd On Facebook Handicap Hurdle at 8/1.

Also celebrated by the bookies was a 15/2 win in the smartcomputersbristol.com Handicap Chase for Bertenbar, ridden by Aidan Coleman for trainer Lawney.

Some of Fontwell’s more regular winners were in luck too, with Hampshire trainer Chris Gordon enjoying the latest in a long line of victories at the track when David Noonan guided Coolking to an impressive 12-length victory in the last, the Smart Computers Supporting Racing Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle.

Roberts added: “We had a busy day with the rugby rodeo ball and punch bags providing entertainment and the Cracklin’ Griffins performing live music after racing.”

The raceday was sponsored by Smart Computers Bristol.

Next up at Fontwell there’s Easter holiday fun for all the family alongside a seven-race card next Friday, April 1.
