YOUTH FOOTBALL: Chesworth Rovers and Lower Beeding Lions beat the chill to earn impressive wins

On a day when the dreadful weather again saw scores of football games off, Chesworth Rovers’ Under-11s match against Partridge Green went ahead with both sets of players desperate to play.

Green had won the last encounter 3-2, but with Jamie Buchanan and Ben Cole combining well, Chesworth came racing out of the blocks and Cody Gibbs put them ahead early with a sweet strike.

After the goal Rovers relaxed and Max Laker made it two, but some good saves from the Green goalkeeper denied them any further goals before half-time.

In the second half further strikes from Laker, Christian Burgess, a Daniel Christer cracker, Ben Cole from range and Callum Jones sealed a 7-0 win. Seb Ellis and man of the match Dion Clouden both impressed.

Lower Beeding Lions U16s picked up a vital three points in their title chase with a close 3-2 victory over Ashington.

On a difficult surface it was Lions who opened the scoring with a excellent long-range effort from Charlie Blair-Rains.

Ashington soon levelled but Ed Kear’s excellent run from the back allowed Joe Wright to cross for him to head home.

Lions goalkeeper Liam Kidd kept them ahead in the second half before Joe Wright scored to seal the win. Lions MOTM was Matt Streeter.
