Oakwood, who currently sit in third position, secured a 1-0 win at Midhurst & Easebourne in their final game of the campaign to move five points clear of Wickers in fifth.

Southwick bring their season to a close on Saturday with a trip to Selsey but now know a top-three finish will not be possible following Oakwood’s final-game success.

Despite missing out on a top three finish, Wickers boss John Kilgarriff believes it’s been a great season for his side.

He said: “Three seasons ago we nearly slipped into parks football but pulled off a great escape to stay up.

“Since then, we won the league and cup double last season and can’t finish any lower than fifth in Division 1 this year.

“It’s been a great season with a great bunch of lads and to still be in with a chance of ending in fourth is fantastic for us.”

It will be a bit of a blow to Kilgarriff and his side after a seven-match unbeaten run, which has seen them collect six victories and a draw.

After promotion as champions last season, Southwick have fallen just short of back-to-back promotions.

However, it has still been an excellent season for Wickers and they will finish in the top five.

Southwick could still end up fourth in the table as they trail Storrington by two points with one game to go, although, Swans have a slightly better goal difference.
