United reached the first round proper of the FA Vase after their 3-0 triumph over Epsom Athletic on Saturday.

This was then followed up with an emphatic away-day win at Wick & Barnham in the Sussex Senior Cup first round.

United would have travelled to Wick with confidence having already come away with a 4-0 league win at Crabtree Park earlier in the season.

Wick’s form has been poor since then and United controlled the game from start to finish.

Nigel Geary’s men found themsleves in front after just seven minutes.

Patrick Rose went clear and fired past Jordan Matthews in the Wick goal.

Mavericks were on the front foot for the remainder of the half.

They missed a number of chances in the opening 45.

It didn’t take long for United to add a second after the break.

Rose completed his brace as the Mavericks opened up a two-goal lead.

James Wotherspoon then effectively ended the first round tie with a strike on 55 minutes.

United eased their way through the final minutes but were caught out late on.

Wick nabbed a late consolation as Nigel Geary’s hopes for a clean sheet were dashed.

That goal did not spark a comeback and United booked a place in the second round.

The Mavericks are without a game on Saturday but return to action with a home league clash with Littlehampton on Tuesday.
