St Francis Rangers chairman: 'I just think it's going to take time for the team to bed in'

Rangers appointed Barnet’s head of academy recruitment Joe Monks as their new boss last week.

Monks was unable to attend his first game as new boss on Saturday through illness as they slumped to a 9-0 home loss to Southern Combination League Premier Division leaders Eastbourne Town.

Rangers’ form has been woeful so far this season and they have lost all 24 of their league fixtures so far conceding 168 times in the process.

Monks’ side included eight debutants on Saturday and Goss believes it’s going to take time for the new team to take shape.

He said: “It’s always going to be tough when you have eight new players in your side.

“We had four work experience players in from Barnet for the game and four who are non contract at the club.

“Those players came in to join John Brazil, Jake Rudwick and Chris Haskell who have been here all season.

“It couldn’t have got any tougher for us facing a side as good as Eastbourne Town on Saturday. I just think it’s going to take time for the team to bed in.”

Things don’t get any easier for Rangers with trips to seventh-placed Pagham and third-placed Horsham in their next two league fixtures.

But Goss revealed new boss Monks is in talks with another league club and will be in the dugout for the trip to Pagham on this weekend.

He said: “Joe has been in contact with another league club and we will be hoping to bring some players in from them.

“It wasn’t great not having Joe in the dugout against Eastbourne Town but he will be with the team at Pagham.

“I think once this side gets settled and Joe continues to work with the side we can pick up some points.”
