A crowd of 464 braved the cold to watch Burgess Hill Town take on Sittingbourne in this league fixture.
The first chance of the game fell to Sittingbourne’s Miles Cornwell when he broke down the left and cut inside to fire a shot that Mark Zawadski saved well to his right.
On five minutes Hill had a good chance when a long ball over the top was challenged for by Dan Perry and away keeper Adam Molloy the ball fell unkindly for Perry and it was cleared from danger.
On ten minutes Rob O’Toole was found by Sam Fisk but his well struck shot was deflected for a corner.
This was shortly followed by Will Miles having to be substituted due to a groin injury and Toby Pointing coming on to replace him. Sittingbourne had a chance on twenty two minutes when Cornwell’s goal bound effort was blocked by Sam Fisk for a corner then soon after this Burgess Hill thought they had taken the lead when Neil watts put in great cross that found O’Toole and his powerful header was blocked by away keeper Molloy that appeared to cross the line but the assistant referee waved play on to the annoyance of the home players and the fans behind the goal.
Sittingbourne’s Ollie Bankole created himself a good chance on thirty two minutes when he got past Sam Fisk but his effort went over from just outside the box and this was quickly followed with a Sittingbourne effort that was well saved by Zawadski. Hill took the lead just before half time when Dan Pearse shot from just outside the box and it was deflected into the path of Dan Perry and he made no mistake from three yards out.
The second half started with Neil Watts going close when his header from a Saunders corner was comfortably saved by Molloy and soon after Joe Keehan was unlucky not to get on the end of a dangerous cross from Fisk. Sittingbourne’s first chance of the second half fell to Harry Smith but his header went just over.
Callum Saunders made a great run down Hill’s left and put in a dangerous cross that unfortunately Pat Harding just couldn’t get on the end of, Hill made another change on sixty six minutes with Saunders being replaced by Lee Harding. Hill had a great chance to get a second goal on sixty eight minutes after Molloy tipped a cross onto his crossbar and the rebound fell to Pat Harding but his shot crashed against the bar and was cleared up field, Dan Perry was replaced by Spencer Slaughter with ten minutes left but the last real chances of the game fell to Sittingbourne.
The first chance fell to Miles Cornwell but his far post header went just wide but the best chance fell to Harry Smith on the stroke of full time when was found in space from a cross but his header was well saved by Zawadski down to his right. This win gives Hill a three point lead with four games in hand over second place Faversham.
