Efforts from Michael Craveiro, Jeff Duah-Kessie and Karl Daughlin helped division-higher Southern East Counties Premier Division side Croydon to a 3-1 victory at Mile Oak in the second-round qualifying clash.

While admitting this competition was not his main focus, Oak boss Ben Shoulders was frustrated to see the winning streak come to an end.

He said: “We were pleased to still be in the competition and it was a free-hit for us.

“I thought we competed well in the first half but a second for them right on half time was a killer.

“Chasing the game against a team from a step above is never easy and they picked us off in the second.

“It was a shame our run came to an end but we need to focus once again now.”

Duah-Kessie fired Croydon ahead after 27 minutes but Jack Stenning made it 1-1 six minutes later. The travelling side lead at the break as Daughlin slotted home at the second attempt after seeing an effort stopped by Aaron Stenning.

Croydon secured their spot in the next round as Craveiro finished off a counter attacking move on the hour mark.

Oak’s attention now turns back to the league as they host East Preston (7.30pm)

Shoulders has no doubts his team will be able to turn things around following Saturday’s defeat.

He added: “This is a massive game for us and one we want to win. After we went 3-1 down, I think everyone’s focus was turned to Wednesday.

“It’s going to be a really tough test but one we’ll look forward to and have a really good go.”
