Ifield 1 Roffey 2
By Geoff Thornton
In a seasonal affair at Ifield Green the home side presented Roffey with a gift goal after just six minutes play.
Three defenders stood off and Ben Bissett picked his spot beyond Ian O’Donnell’s ponderous dive.
The April Fool’s Day joke was on Ifield as they dominated the rest of the first half without looking like scoring. Chris Hughes produced a deft turn and shot and then he set up Clive Piller whose shot was blocked. A corner followed that Matt Rendell headed narrowly over the bar.
Ian O’Donnell made a good save from Roffey’s Mattens just before the break and in the second spell the Villagers continued to press.
Wayne Shaw hit one chance over the bar and soon followed that by meeting Steve Martin’s pull back but shooting straight at the keeper.
Against the run of play after 63 minutes Bissett drove home his second from a tight angle but Piller pulled back a goal a minute later with a clever flick over Norris.
Ifield never gave up the chase but desperation replaced cohesion and their chance of a point slipped away.
Ifield: O’Donnell; Smith, Rendell, Familton, Cawte; Martin, Shaw, Dunster (Stokes), Nourse (Gardiner); Hughes (Wright), Piller.
