Hillians boss Chapman: 'It's massive. Our biggest game of the season by far'

Following a 3-3 draw with Staines Town on Saturday and an agonising late defeat to Harlow Town on Tuesday (both reports on page 80), the Hillians are just one place and two points off the relegation places with seven games left to play.

And they start that run against Kingstonian, who are just one point above Chapman’s men.

Chapman said: “It’s massive. Our biggest game of the season by far.

“We want to get a massive crowd in to try and support us and help us get three points.”

But he knows it will not be easy. He said of their visitors: “They are going to be like us. They will be fighting.”

Chapman was understandably gutted after the late defeat to Harlow and knows his side have not been good enough recently and that luck has not been on their side.

He said: “Nothing changes for us. The shame of it is that last few games we have played poorly.

“But football’s a funny game, when you are down there you seem to get kicked in the teeth all the time.

“I don’t think I am delusional but I do believe that.

“But we have had no luck. On Tuesday, Lee Harding had a deflected shot and we watched it spin the wrong side of the post. When it’s against us, stuff like that happens.

“The morning after the Harlow defeat the players and myself feel a little bit down, a little bit low because it was a real kick in the teeth.

“But come Saturday we have got to forget about that and pull together and go again.”

Former players Joe Keehan and Rob O’Toole, who have been playing for SCFL Premier Division leaders Shoreham this season, have come back to help Chapman.

He said: “Because of the budget situation we can’t afford to bring people in, so we have to do everything we can. Joe Keehan and Rob O’Toole are more than capable at this level. I want to keep them both at the club but both have their reasons.

“They were both keen to come back and help and they will hopefully be involved in a two or three more out of the seven we have left.

“And if we can get positive results in those games we stay up.”
