Hassocks had 50 people turn up to the first pre-season training session, but the management duo are still working on getting some new faces in at The Beacon.

Wickwar told Middy sport: “We were caught out on first pre season session when nearly 50 people turned up!

“Mark and I are working hard on a few new faces as well but it’s frustrating because it seems people can’t give you honest answers.”

But Wickwar is delighted with the pitch at the Beacon.

He said: “The pitch is looking good. That’s a testament to Alan John’s summer work.”

The management pair became opponents at the weekend on the cricket field.

Wickwar was wicketkeeper for Burgess Hill second XI while Dalgleish was opening for St James II in the Sussex Cricket League second XI Division 3 (East) game.

Burgess Hill scored 167 all out with Wickwar getting a duck, but before Dalgliesh could get padded up, the rain came down and the match was abandoned.

Before the match Wickwar said: “We are both a little competitive as the lads find out in training, so should be fun.”
