LITTLEHAMPTON Town Football Club booked their spot in the Sussex Senior Cup quarter-finals last night.
George Gaskin’s side produced a solid display to knock out two-divisions higher and Ryman League Premier side Lewes.
The Rooks have struggled this season, picking up just two league wins to date.
But credit must go to Golds who netted three times in the opening 25 minutes as they saw off tough third-round opposition.
Dean Janman opened the scoring before leading scorer George Landais chipped in with another two strikes.
Both sides found it tough going on a sticky pitch in the opening stages.
However, Golds went ahead with their first attack as Mitchell Hand’s defence-splitting ball sent Janman through and he slotted into the bottom corner.
That dream start for Littlehampton got better six minutes later.
Luke Kilner won the ball in midfield before finding Gaskin, who sent Landais away. He composed himself to fire home from the edge of the area.
A fine first 25 minutes was then capped off when Gaskin’s fine delivery was headed home by Landais.
Lewes should have pulled a goal back when Iuean Strong teed up James Fraser but he blazed over on 35 minutes as the Ryman Premier side went in three goals down.
Lewes were much-improved in the second but failed to make their possession count.
Forward Richard Pacquette headed wide on two occasions when well placed, while Lee Carley saw his 25-yard strike hit the bar with Jon Hendrick well beaten late on.
Landais embarked on a fine solo run before trying his luck from 18 yards but his shot went wide.
The Rooks could find no way through and Golds’ clinical finishing proved the difference.
Littlehampton will now be in the hat for the last eight and find themselves just two wins away from an Amex final date.
