Haywards Heath Town are preparing for one of the biggest games in the club’s recent history as they face Alton in the first round of the FA Vase this Saturday at Hanbury Stadium.

In the previous qualifying round the Blues pulled off a remarkable recovery coming back from being 3-0 down at half time against Sevenoaks to run out 4-3 winners in extra time.

Manager Shaun Saunders said: “We are really excited to be in the 1st round proper, it has energised the players and gives us a meaningful break from our important league campaign.

“The Vase is a phenomenal competition to be involved in and we want to try and get a few more rounds under our belts as that will demonstrate to a wider audience how good the team is playing at the moment.”

The team is currently on a 14 match unbeaten streak in league and cup competitions having won again in extra time against high flying Horsham 3 -1 last Tuesday to progress through to the 3rd round of the RUR Cup.

In the league Saunders has taken the team to 3rd in Division 1 with a number of games in hand and were awarded the team of the month for September.
