Robins kicked things off with a couple of high-profile friendlies as as they faced National League South side Whitehawk, before coming up against Ryman South side Lewes.

Dalgleish saw his side suffer 6-0 defeats in both, before a 1-1 draw with Southern Combination League Division 2 side on Saturday.

Despite those losses Hassocks’ joint boss did not feel his side were overawed against quality opposition and said: “We’ve had some really tough games in pre-season so far.

“We tested ourselves against some top teams in both Whitehawk and Lewes.

“Despite losing heavily in both, I felt we retained the ball well and were a match for them.

“We moved onto a team below us in the divisions on Saturday and drew 1-1.

“Upper Beeding were decent opposition but we just needed to be more clinical in front of goal.

“I hope and feel that’s something that will come with more game time.”

Robins have been able to keep all of last year’s squad, while also adding three new additions to date.

AFC Uckfield pair Harry Mills and Andy Whittingham have come across, with Lewis Westlake also joining from rivals Lancing.

Dalgleish has been delighted with business so far and is looking to add a couple of fresh faces.

He added: “It was a real coup keeping last seasons squad together.

“We’ve added some quality with Lewis, Harry and Andy all agreeing deals.

“A couple more have been training with us in recent weeks and we are hoping to finalise deals in the coming days before the season gets underway.”
