Crawley Town goalkeeper Callum Preston is looking to help get Reds their first home win when he makes his League 2 debut this afternoon.

Regular No1 Freddie Woodman is absent today through international duty for England Under-19s which has given Preston the chance to show Reds fans what he can do in a league game for the first time.

The former Birnmingham City academy player impressed in pre-season and enjoyed a good game on in his first competitive outing for Mark Yates’ team on Tuesday, despite Crawley being knocked out of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Preston, 19, said: “It was nice to get 90 minutes under my belt ready for Saturday.

“It was great preparation and hopefully we can kick on for a clean sheet and a win on Saturday.

“We know in the dressing room the win is coming soon, we’ve got enough quality and enough mental strength to get through it.

“We just need to keep patient and keep to our principles we need to get the rub of the green on Saturday and hopefully the win will be then.”

Preston does not see what will be his Football League debut as anything to get fazed about.

He said: “There’s no point hyping up the game. It’s just 90 minutes of football, I’ve been playing since I was eight or seven and it’s just another game.”

Preston admitted he would like to play well enough to keep his shirt when Woodman returns to the squad.

“It’s my aim. I don’t want to sit on the bench all season - Freddie drives me on and hopefully I’ll drive him on.”
