Chichester City got back to winning ways with a 7-1 thumping of Eastbourne United Association.

Jimmy Wild hit a hat-trick while Kieran Hartley bagged a double with Dan Hegarty and Dan Watts also striking as City romped to a 7-1 win.

Since I’ve come in, the players have been great and probably only produced three poor displays. It was important to get the win on Saturday and we did.

Miles Rutherford

For City boss Miles Rutherford, it was a perfect response following a couple of lacklustre displays over the Easter weekend.

He had seen his side secure a 1-0 win at St Francis before falling to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Pagham.

Rutherford was pleased to see his side get back on a winning track and said: “It was a really good win for us.

“I was a little disappointed with the way we played over the Easter period and we were not good enough.

“But since I’ve come in, the players have been great and probably only produced three poor displays.

“It was important to get the win on Saturday and we did.”

Hartley fired City ahead on 14 minutes with Wild making it two nine minutes later.

A fine first half was capped by Hegarty getting his side’s third six minutes before the break and Wild making it four a minute later.

United were given faint hope as Lucas Mann pulled one back five minutes after the interval but Watts restored City’s four-goal cushion with 20 minutes left.

Hartley got his second on 85 and Wild completed his hat-trick on 90 minutes.

Wild’s treble saw him take his tally to 25 for the season and Rutherford feels he has potential to play higher in the future.

He added: “Jimmy is not the finished article just yet but he has great potential.

“For him to move on to 25 goals is great for him and us.

“We will keep putting work in on Jimmy to try to get to him to the level he deserves to be.”

CITY: Hook; Williams, Horncastle, French, Bingham; Clack, Watts, Hegarty, Hartley; Smith, Wild. Subs: Martin (French), Ansa (Hegarty), Manners (Smith).

Hassocks 1 Chichester City 3

Combination premier

Chichester continued their excellent week at Hassocks on Tuesday night – and it was two of Saturday’s scorers who were the goal heroes once more.

Jimmy Wild set City on their way to another win with a seventh-minute opener.

Dan Hegarty made it 2-0 six minutes before the break and added another early in the second half. Jamie Hillwood pulled one back for Hassocks ten minutes from time but the three points were never in doubt for Miles Rutherford’s team, who moved up to eighth.

Eastbourne T 1 Pagham 3

Combination premier

A match that didn’t really come to life until the second half ended with the Lions celebrating their third win in eight days.

Scott Murfin fired them in front on 64 minutes before Matthew Darby’s quick equaliser.

But goals by Terrell Lewis and Jake Stanley gave Pagham the win.
