Crawley Town’s long trip to Carlisle proved fruitless after a 3-1 defeat at Brunton Park.
Charlie Wyke put the home side 2-0 up with goals in the second and 29th minutes. But the in-form Rhys Murphy kept the Reds in the game with a goal 11 minutes before half time.
Murphy converted a diving header after Lewis Young crossed in from the right.
But Jabo Ibehre has restored Carlisle’s two-goal advantage at the start of the second half.
It was Ibehre’s 12th goal of the campaign and his second since returning from injury.
Carlisle: Gillespie, Atkinson, Grainger, Raynes, Ellis, Joyce, Sweeney, Kennedy, Gilliead, Wyke, Ibehre. Subs: Hanford, Hery, Dicker, Archibald-Henville, Thompson, Asamoah, McQueen.
Crawley: Flahavan, Walton, Bradley, Edwards, Smith, Young, Harrold, Emmanuel, Hancox, Yorwerth, Murphy. Subs: Preston, Barnard, Rooney, Fenelon, Ashton, Deacon, Jenkins.
Oxford United went top of League Two with a 1-0 win over Hartlepool.
