Billingshurst CC members out in force ahead of new season

The saying goes that many hands make light work, although the large working party that gathered over the weekend at Jubilee Fields, home of Division One newcomers Billingshurst Cricket Club, wouldn’t necessarily subscribe to that sentiment.

The weekend before last (April 4 -6), many cricket clubs up and down the country would have been a hive of activity, all part of the ECB’s national ‘Cricket Force’ initiative.

As part of the theme, clubs are encouraged to get their members together in order to help prepare their facilities in readiness for the start of the new season, and Billingshurst was no exception to that.

Ably led and guided by chairman Jim Burroughs, a large team of young and old met up at the ground in order to carry out various works on the scoreboard, the outfield and various other parts of the ground.

With the start of the Sussex League season less than a month away, the club are keen to build on the momentum they gathered from their promotion from Division 3 West last season by establishing themselves in Division Two.

‘Hurst play local rivals Wisborough Green in their first competitive fixture, the T20 Cup on May 3.
