VIDEO: Crawley fans answer snow call

Waiting for Video...

An army of Reds fans have come out in force today to help clear the Broadfield Stadium pitch of snow.

More than four inches of snow had settled on covers protecting the playing surface over the weekend, volunteers was called-upon to allow the covers to be removed.

Although there is no game at the Broadfield until next Tuesday, against Preston, the pitch needs to breathe after almost a week under covers.

Fans who helped out on Monday were treated to pizza, and a free ticket to the Preston match.

Chief executive Richard Low said: “The covers had been on for quite some time and we needed to get them removed so the grass does not turn yellow. But we also need to make sure the area surrounding the pitch is clear for fans’ and stewards’ safety. There was a great atmosphere among those who came down.”
