Horsham YMCA coach Mark Hawthorne saluted front pair Martin Smith and Elliott Romain after his side’s 2-1 defeat of Sidley in Sussex County League Division 1 on Saturday.

Smith bagged the opener and Romain’s movement caused problems all afternoon as YM registered back-to-back wins for the first time since October.

YM could have been home and dry before Andy Hales scored Sidley’s equaliser, as Smith saw several chances go begging, and Dan Sullivan had a penalty saved. But Kevin Burgess came to YM’s rescue with a late winner.

Hawthorne said: “The front two are our main weapon, we make no bones about that. When they are on their game I don’t think there is a defence in the league which can live with them. We are making plenty of chances and another day that could have been three or four.”
